Shakil clinches second silver for the country in shooting

Bangladesh shooter Shakil Ahmed won his first and the second silver in shooting for the country after ace shooter Abdullah Hel Baki won the silver for Bangladesh in
the 10m air rifles event of the Games in the ongoing Commonwealth Games on Wednesday at Gold Coast in Australia.
The shooter won the second place in the 50-meter pistol event with 220.5 points in the final on the day.
In the qualification, Shakil and Anwar Hossain scored 545-7x and 528-7x and placed fourth and 10th in a row. Anwar could not take part in the final after being failed to place in top eight while Shakil moved to the final.
On Monday in the 10-meter air pistol event for men, shooter Shakil Ahmed with 653-14x points secured the final and placed sixed in the final scoring 150.1. Another Bangladeshi Anwar Hossain placed 13th among the 24 contesters in the final.
Many years ago, Shakil won a gold medal in the same 50-meter pistol event in the South Asian Games in 2010.
Earlier, famed shooter Abdullah Hel Baki secured the first silver medal for the country with a score of 244.7 in the men's 10-meter air rifle event on Sunday. It was the first ever medal of the country this year.
On the day, Baki was only .03 point behind the gold as he needed 10.1 points and could score 9.7 till the end. Therefore, he had to stay satisfied with a silver.
In the meantime, Bangladesh woman shooter Umme Zakia Sultana Tumpa who was near to clinch a bronze in the 10-meter air rifle event unfortunately placed fourth with 202 scores in the final on Monday. The Lalmonirhat shooter was doing well in the event till the last round. She came to the final round scoring a total of 410.5 points in the previous round.
Another woman Shooter Syeda Atkia Hasan who also was in the final with Sultana finished 10th out of 18 contesters scoring 407.4 points.
