A female ward member was allegedly fell victim of rape attempt by the chairman of her union parishad (UP) in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi.
The victim, reserved female member of Ashariadaha union parsihad, lodged a complaint to deputy commissioner office over this incident. A copy of the complaint was also sent to Local Government Ministry, and investigation begun for it.
According to the complaint, UP chairman Md Sanaullah, resident of Diarmanikchak, attempted to rape the female UP member recently after calling her at his home at night.
The chairman called the victim saying that he want to discuss various projects. When the victim reached there, the chairman took her inside a room, kept her husband waiting at the corridor around 7.30 pm.
At the end of the discussion, when the victim wanted to go out of home, Sanaullah grabbed the victim’s mouth and took her to nearby cowshed where he allegedly tried to rape her.
Hearing the scream of the victim her husband rushed in and saved her, the complaint said.
The victim lodged the complaint to DC office being failed to get justice from near and dear ones, and local administration.
Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader said Godagari upazila nirbahi officer Shimul Akter has been asked to investigate the matter and submit a report within seven days. Further step will be taken after getting the report he added.
Shimul Akter said investigation over the matter has begun.
The cell phone of the UP chairman found switched off while trying to contact with him over the matter.
