Doctor assaulted, medical service closed Saturday

Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) and the owners of the medical chambers, clinics, diagnostic centers have closed their services in protest against the assault of a doctor in Rajshahi.

Their protest began at 6am on Saturday, and will continue till 5pm, said BMA Rajshahi branch general secretary Nawshad Ali.

He said the BMA leaders have also formed a human chain in front of Rajshahi Medical College at 12pm in protest against the assault.

General patients and their relatives have been suffering due to the closure of private medical services. Many patients from Rajshahi and beyond are not getting treatment at the private clinic and diagnostic centers.

In Rajshahi Medical College hospital, many patients have been subject to untimely sufferings failing to do various medical tests.

Earlier on April 26, in Popular Diagnostic Center, a clash took place between doctors, authorities and relatives of a patient as the child patient allegedly died due to wrong treatment.

BMA Rajshahi district general secretary Dr. Nowshad Ali said the doctor of the diagnostic center, Sanaullah, had been assaulted unfairly. In protest, 102 clinics and diagnostic centers in the city have been closed till 5pm on Saturday. The doctors’ chambers also remained closed.

He also demanded security of doctors.
