Star Wars Day: May the 4th be with you

Published : Thursday, 3 May, 2018 at 12:00 AM  Count : 359
'May the 4th be with you' is a phrase used by the world star wars community to refer to the day on which the fandom celebrates Star Wars Day. This phrase is a slight modification of the well known Star Wars phrase 'may the force be with you'.
Originally, Star Wars Day didn't gain much momentum when the phrase was adopted by Star Wars fans. Later on, the day gained popularity as this phrase was much appreciated in some colleges. Now, the day is regularly celebrated by fans around the world.
The first company to make Star Wars Day an official holiday was Walt Disney when they had bought the franchise.
Things to do
Star Wars merchandise
I love Star Wars and  the merchandise that comes with it. T-shirts, table tops, posters, bags, hoodies and anything else that can be, I'm sure a Star Wars fan has many of those items tucked away somewhere in their room.
This day would be the best time to get these out and put them to use. I prefer T-shirts; they go well with the hot May weather and are cool to look at. You get to show off your merchandise to your family and friends as well.
Movie marathon
Putting on a t-shirt with Star Wars written on it and with posters of X-wing star fighters all over my room, I will binge watch Star Wars movies. There are many Star Wars movies in the market now. Going on a movie marathon might be the best way to reminisce your childhood.
Remember when Luke blows up the first Death Star by shooting a proton torpedo through its thermal exhaust shaft? The scene of a gigantic globe blowing up from a small measly proton torpedo was a scene to behold. I specially loved the models of the Corellian CR-90 corvettes in which Princess Lea escaped. The original trilogy, in my opinion, was the best. Later on, many other films have been released with many more in the making.
So, watching movies from the franchise to revisit the old Star Wars days would be a good way to spend Star Wars Day.

Invite friends over
Those who have friends with similar interests can call over the gang and have a fun day, talking about and watching Star Wars together. The list of things to do together is not that short.
Discussions might include topics such as the new Star Wars Rebels animated series or the latest movie Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Moreover, which faction is greater -- Empire or New Republic. This could lead to a great debate session.
Even if there are friends in the group who don't have the taste for space sci-fi, call them over, I am sure, hearing the discussions and debates about star fighters, X-Wings, Imperial Star Destroyers and the mighty Super Star Destroyers is sure to intrigue their interests.

Play board games
When I was young, I used to love a good strategy game. Star Wars was very close to my heart. At that time I had gotten some Star Wars playing cards from a relative who came to visit from abroad.
My father had taught me how to play it. I remember playing with my cousins and all the fun that I had. That's why those who have a strategic mind may opt to play card or board games on this occasion. Games such as Imperial Assault, X-Wing: The Miniatures Game, Star Wars Risk is a great way to brainstorm on different stratagems to pull a victory over your opponent.

Star Wars with younger siblings
Last but not the least, if you have younger siblings, celebrate this day by telling them the stories of the famous Anakin Skywalker, his Jedi master Obi-Wan or why did Admiral Ackbar say "it's a trap..." Stories from the canon are sure to intrigue the young ones' minds and, 'the force will grow strong' in them.
This day is sure to bring back memories from the childhood in some, and in others, there's still time to get them interested.
May the 4th be with you.
