Nigerian footballer Emeka continues run for Rohingyas

Veteran Nigerian footballer and current coach Emeka Ezeugo is continuing his run on humanitarian ground, taking steps to reduce the sufferings of stateless Rohingya people, persecuted and banished by Myanmar.

The 50-year-old footballer, who played for his national side in the FIFA World Cup 1994, ran from Kolkata to Dhaka and resumed his run on Monday morning from Hatirpool area of the capital to reach Kutupalong refugee camp in Cox's Bazar.

Emeka Ezeugo, who lives in USA, has taken this initiative to raise fund for Rohingya people in collaboration with the World Footballers Forum Bangladesh.

Addressing a press conference at Platinum Gymnasium Center before resuming his run from Hatirpool, the humanitarian flag-bearer booter said that he will try to arrange two exhibition matches in this regard.

World Footballers Forum Bangladesh convener Dr Abdul Wadud said, "During the FIFA World Cup in June in Russia, Emeka Ezeugo will lead the protest programme against torture on Rohingya people displaying placards during the matches in every venue."

Former captain of Bangladesh football team Kaysar Hamid and former player Sheikh Mohammad Aslam were also present on the occasion with others.

In a successful 15-year playing career, Emeka Ezeugo obtained 11 international caps for his national team between 1992 and 1994. He also played for Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club in 1989-90.
