Turkey farming gains popularity in Bagmara

Turkey bird farming is getting popularity in Bagmara of Rajshahi as it is possible with less manpower and investment. People of this area are being involved in the business and started commercial production of it.

Turkey farming is blooming in the area because of more profit investing less capital.

Saidur Rahman, a former Army member, set up a Turkey farm in his house at Champakuri Mahalla in Bhobaniganj municipal area with 200 Turkey chicks six months ago.

Saidur had the the eggs hatched in his farm, and now there are 500 Turkeys in the farm.

A Turkey bird grows five to seven kilograms in weight within five months, he said, adding, “I brought 20 Turkeys in Bhobaniganj haat and sold them at 350 taka per kilogram.”

Lutfur Rahman of Hatmadnagar village bought a four-kilogram Turkey at Tk 1400 while Belal Hussain, goldsmith of Bamankoa village bought a five-kilogram Turkey at Tk 1750.

Taste of Turkey meat as like mutton and tasty, they said.

Upazila Live Stock Official Dr Atiur Rahman said farming of Turkey is very easy and its death rate is less. A Turkey weighs five to seven kilograms within five months, he added.
