Khaleque’s wife wins Rampal seat unopposed

The ruling Awami League candidate Habibun Nahar Bina, wife of Khulna City Corporation mayor-elect Talukder Abdul Khaleque, has become the MP of Rampal-Mongla constituency without any contest. She won the Bagerhat-3 by-polls without any election on Monday as none opposed her by submitting nomination papers, according to Returning Officer Md Nuruzzaman Talukdar.The seat had become vacant as Khaleque vacated the constituency for vying for Khulna City Corporation mayoral race.Khaleque's wife was a lawmaker in the seat earlier when her husband was the mayor of Khulna. Actor Md Shakil Ahsan aka Shakil Khan had collected nomination to contest the by-polls as an independent candidate but had not submitted it. As a result, Habibun Nahar was elected MP unopposed."I will try to complete all the development work that could not be completed," the MP-elect said. According to the election schedule, the by-poll was slated to be held Jun 26.
