Sit-in for river dyke held in Moulvibazar

MOULVIBAZAR, July 4: Different organisations of the district staged a sit-in program seeking immediate initiatives and their implementations for building embankments and re-excavating rivers in the area on Wednesday.
More than 50 socio-cultural and voluntary organizations took part in the program under the banner of 'Manu and Dholaiparer Janagosthi' between 11am and 1 pm in front of the district's Water Development Board.
Speakers at the sit-in claimed three rivers-Kushiara, Manu and Dhalai--- have lost their navigability due to a long gap in re-excavating the rivers, causing frequent floods in the regions that incurred huge losses in the four upazilas in the district and led to 400,00 4 lakhs people by the flood this year.
Zila Parishad Chairman Azizur Rahman, AL President of the district Nesar Ahmed, municipality mayor Md Fazlur Rahman, UP Chairman of the district sadar, Mizanur Rahman Mizan spoke on this occasion.
A memorandum was put forward to the Prime Minister after the sit-in program through the district deputy commissioner.    -UNB
