Rajshahi University (RU) student Tariqul Islam, who was critically hammered in the quota reform movement on July 2, his classmates have taken to him to Dhaka from Rajshahi for better care on Sunday morning.
On Thursday, he was admitted to private Royal Hospital in Rajshahi city after he had been released from Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). He received treatment at the supervision of doctor Saeed Ahmed Babu at the clinic.
Doctor Saeed Ahmed Babu said the hospital conducted several tests of Tariqul. Test reports found his right leg bone broken.
It was not clear in the X-ray report whether Tariqul's pelvic bone broke. More advanced testing is required to confirm the condition. That is why Tariqul was advised to take to Dhaka for better treatment.
Tariqul said, “I was very sick. There is a plaster all over the broken leg. I cannot move without the help of three or four people. There is an unbearable pain throughout the body.”
Tariqul's younger sister Fatima Khatun said Tariqul's classmates left for Dhaka with him on Sunday morning, and she still does not know where he will be admitted in Dhaka.
On Monday, the RU students brought out a procession demanding reform in quota system. The BCL activists attacked the procession. Tariqul, a student of Islamic Studies Department, was beaten with stick and hammer. In the pictures and video footage of the attack, RU BCL's assistant-secretary Abdullah-al-Mamun was seen beating Tariqul with a hammer.
After the attack, police rescued Tariqul and admitted him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). There were nine stitches on his head. He was undergoing treatment at RMCH in custody. But on Thursday, Tariqul was 'forced' released from RMCH.
