In a bizarre twist in the tale of a Yaba seizure and arrest of a drug peddler case in Chattogram an innocent person is now wanted by the police in the port city. Bakalia police in a drive arrested one Mizanur Rahman with 950 pieces of Yaba pills on October 14 in 2015. A case was filed against him with Bakalia police. With the case pending he was freed on bail after serving 11 months in jail. He is absconding since then. It is now known that the police submitted charge sheet against another man, who was not arrested in the drive. Abdul Karim Sub-inspector of Bakalia Police Station submitted charge sheet after two months of investigation on September 15. The arrested accused got bail from the higher court on September 18 a year later. In the charge sheet police named Mizanur Rahman, son of Yashin Ali and Delwara Begum of village Balur Char, Thana South Sadar District of Cumilla. Locals say Mizanur Rahman was not the person the law enforcers were looking for. Chattogram court summoned Mizanur Rahman to appear at the hearing of the Yaba case last month. The picture of the arrested Mizanur Rahman at the Bakalia Police Station and the address used are not the same. The victim Mizanur Rahman said he was a sales executive at ATI Ceramics in the capital and has never been arrested or jailed. Jamal Uddin bother of victim Mizanur Rahman said they have a dispute over a piece of land with one Abdul Gafur. He might have implicated Mizan in the drug case after he failed to grab the land belonging to Mizanur Rahman, claimed Jamal. But, like in many other mysterious past incidents, police dropped the name of the prime accused from the charge sheet they filed following further investigation - that raised eyebrows of many. They said although Yaba pills are often seized and the dealers arrested, the godfathers remain behind the scenes. That is why the Yaba trade continues to flourish. Abdul Karim Sub-Inspector of Bakalia Police Station, now promoted to the rank of Inspector and working with Special Branch (SB) of police in Chattogram, said the accused gave the name and address to the police during the time of his arrest. Surprisingly, the charge sheet was submitted two months later ignoring this vital piece of misinformation.
