
Former minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts affairs Kalpa Ranjan Chakma died at a hospital in the capital city on Wednesday.
He breathed his last at Community Medical College Hospital at Moghbazar at 12:20 pm at the age of 98, reports UNB.
Kalparanjan
was admitted to the hospital with leg injury and old-age complications,
said Sadek Hosain Chowdhury, personal secretary to State Minister for
CHT Affairs Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing.
He is survived by his two sons, two daughters, wife and a host of relatives and well-wishers.
His body will be taken to Rangamati on Thursday and cremated at Rajbana Bihara.
In 1996, Kalparanjan Chakma was elected an MP from Khagrachhari with Awami League ticket.
He
was the first minister of the CHT Affairs ministry which was formed in
the light of Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord in 1997.
In a
message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at his
death and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Local
Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Khandaker
Mosharraf Hossain also expressed deep shock at his death, said an
official release.
