None of the leaders or activist of Jamaat-e-Islami
or Jamaat's student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir was seen yet in the
election campaign despite Jamaat gave assurance of their election campaign in favour of BNP nominated candidate Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul from Thursday.
After the announcement of the city corporation elections schedule, Jamaat announced to set candidate in the election, but, later Jamaat stepped aside from the stance. Shortly afterwards, Jamaat expressed its interest to set candidate in the forthcoming Jatiya Sangsad election to Rajshahi-3 (Paba-Mohanpur) constituency as, Jamaat says, there is a internal dispute between the BNP leaders and activists.
City BNP's general secretary Shafiqul Haque Milon has been holding mass contact since long. Jamaat’s inaction has created a lot of reactions among his followers, he said.
No leader of Jamaat agreed to talk about Jamaat's taking part in election campaign. The district BNP chief and Bulbul’s chief agent Tofazzal Hossain Tapu said, "I do not know how they are working. I would know about this later.”
Rajshahi district Volunteers’ League General Secretary Mizanur Rahman Rana said, "We are aware of this anti-liberation group. They could hatch conspiracy to make violence. We will be alert that we cannot let happen any kind of violence in any ward even at the centers.
City Awami League's Deputy Publicity Publisher Secretary Ishtiaque Ahmed Limon said, " Jamaat will be resisted in the place where they will be found in the campaign. They will not be given any chance to create violence.
Ashraful Alam Emon, former president of Shibir’s Rajshahi University unit, wrote on his Facebook timeline, "In 2013, Jamaat-Shibir was in the campaigning field of Bulbul, but why did not this happen in 2018? Who is liable for this? Advance congratulations for the next mayor of RCC Khairuzzaman Liton.”
