RCC election campaign ends Saturday

Rajshahi city has become a town of noise. Loud publicity through megaphones by canvassers of mayor and councilor candidates is irritating the residents of the city.

Although some people are disturbed, they are not preventing miking because the election campaign will end at 12 midnight after Saturday. Voting will be taken place on Monday.

Arafat Rubel, a businessman of Rajshahi, wrote on social media Facebook deafening noise everywhere, there is no possibility to hear one’s death announcement!

The candidates are busy campaigning for the last moment ignoring the abrupt rains. Following the election rules, miking is going on in the city from 2 pm to 8 pm.

Five mayor candidates are contesting for the post in Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) election. They are - AHM Khairuzzaman Liton of Awami League, Mohammad Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul of BNP, Shafiqul Islam of Islami Movement, Habibur Rahman of Bangladesh Jatiya Party and Independent candidate of Ganasonghati Movement Murad Morshed.

Atiar Rahman, Assistant Returning Officer of Rajshahi City Corporation election, said that the number of voters is 3,18,138. Of them, 1,56,085 are male and 1,62,053 female voters.

Polling will be held in 138 centers of the city. The Election Commission has identified 114 centers as vulnerable. Additional security measures are being taken for those centers.
