Debt-ridden young man commits suicide

A young man committed suicide by taking poison at Shilmariya union of Puthia upazila in Rajshahi on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Prodip Chandra Adhikari, 32, son of late Kumar Chandra Odhikari, a resident of Chhatrapara village of the union.

Quoting the family, Puthia police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saqil Uddin Ahmed said Prodip was mentally depressed due to being debt-ridden.

On Wednesday, he began to vomit and smell of poison was coming from his mouth. Later, neighbors came to rescue him and took him to the Union Health Center and the duty doctor declared him dead. Police suspect it to be a suicide.

The OC said the family has been allowed to complete the funeral because no one has any complaint, and a UD case was filed with the police station in this connection.
