The government has finally nationalized 271 colleges across the country.
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education on Sunday issued an order signed by Deputy Secretary Nasim Khanom. Earlier on Thursday, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) gave the final approval to those colleges. Now, the total number of the government colleges stands at over 600. The authorities concerned handed over movable and immovable properties of the colleges to the government.
The government earlier decided to nationalize one college of each upazila where there was no government college. The list of 271 colleges nationalized in different districts across the country includes four in Dhaka, thre in Narayanganj, three in Munshigong, three in Gazipur, four in Narasingdi, two in Rajbari, four in Shariyatpur, eight in Mymensingh, ten in Kishorgong, five in Netrokana, eight in Tangail, three in Jamalpur, three in Sherpur, ten in Chattogram, five in Cox's Bazar, four in Rangmati, sin in Khagrachhari, three in Bandarban,one each in Noakhali, Laxmipur and Feni, ten in Cumilla, six in Brahamanbaria, seven in Chandpur, nine in Sylhet, five in Habiganj, five in Moulvibazar, eight in Sunamganj, seven in Rajshahi, two in Chapainawabganj, three in Natore, seven in Pabna, thre in Sirajganj, six in Naogaon, six in Bogura, one in Joypurhat, seven in Rangpur, four in Nilphamari, four in Gaibandha, seven in Kurigram, nine in Dinajpur, three in Lalmonirhat, one in Thakurgaon, four in Phanchagar, five in Khulna, five in Jashore, six in Bagerhat, one in Jhenaidha, two in Kushtia, two in Chuadanga, two in Satkhira, three in Magura, one in Narail, six in Barishal, four in Bhola, three in Jhalakathi, two in Pirojpur, six in Patuakhali and three in Barguna.
