Chief Whip of the opposition in parliament Tajul Islam Chowdhury passed away at a hospital in Dhaka on Monday night. He was 73.
Tajul Islam, also Jatiya Party presidium member, breathed his last at United Hospital at about 11:45pm, according to a Jatiya Party press release. He had been suffering from kidney and heart-related complications.
His first Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at the South Plaza of parliament at 11am on Tuesday, Khondakler Delwar Jalali, Deputy Press Secretary of JP Chairman HM Ershad, said.

The President conveyed his profound sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

He is survived by his wife, 2 sons and a daughter and a host of well-wishers to mourn his death, reports UNB.
The veteran politician was elected MP seven times from the Kurigram-2 constituency, and also served a stint as Land Minister.
In a condolence message, Ershad expressed deep sorrow at the demise of Chowdhury and empathized with his relatives.
JP Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Haoladar MP and Co-Chairman GM Quader visited the hospital and consoled the bereaved family members.
His second Namaz-E-Janaja will be held at family graveyard in Kurigram district on August 15.
