Bus hits bikes, ploughs through shop; 3 killed

Three people, including a school girl were killed and five others were injured in a road accident in Naodapara Bazar area of Rajshahi city on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Anika,13, a class VII student of Shah Makhdum School and daughter of Rustam of Noadapara, Ismail Hossain Pinto, 24, son of Islam in Shahmukdum Police Station area, and Sabuj Islam, 32, son of Mohammad Ali. Pinto and Sabuj were riding on two motorcycles during the accident.

Shahmukdum Police Station officer-in-charge Zillur Rahman said a bus from Naogaon hit a motorcycle and ploughed through a shop at about 11am when the driver lost his control over steering, leaving two dead on the spot and injured six people.

Police and firefighters rushed to the spot and sent the injured to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where Anika died later.

Angered by the accident, Local people blocked the Rajshahi-Naogaon road. At that time, they vandalized a bus and a truck.

Additional police have been deployed to brought the situation under control, the OC added.
