RU teachers’ residential buildings in danger

Rajshahi University (RU) teachers’ families spend days in fear as their residential buildings are getting dilapidated in course of time.

Fisheries department teacher professor Dr. Ishtiaque Hossain alleged the a portion of the plaster of the roof ceiling in his apartment fell apart on his son injuring his stomach while the boy was lying on the bed on Monday afternoon. In another incident, cement plaster dropped on the teacher when he went to the washroom for bathing.

Sohail Mehedi, a teacher of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems, said that such problems are happening due to old buildings not being repaired for a long time.

Sirajum Munir, chief engineer of the university, said that such incidents happened due to university teachers' residential buildings’ being old. Now the ceiling of the buildings needs to be changed. Changing the ceiling of the buildings can be a permanent solution, but it requires a big budget, her added.
