The Bangladesh cricket team has been facing trouble with their opening pair for long since, in fact, the everlasting jostle in their batting order. They never got consistent openers at both the ends.
Tamim Iqbal had been serving alone from one side for the last one decade but didn't get his perfect match. Zohirul Islam, Anamul Haque Bijoy, Imrul Kayes and Soumya Sarkar are the names pronounced along with Tamim but hardly showed stability and consistency enough to rely on. Nazmul Hasan Shanto was the last guinea-pig in the Tigers laboratory, who also failed to prove.
The last pin on the board was the 'Mehidy Hasan Miraz', the off-spinner. Bangladesh sent him at the opening stand against India yesterday as surprising card and surprised more than expectation.
Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza clued during pre-match press conference on Thursday that they will send somebody with Liton about whom nobody even can think to open.
Miraz gave Bangladesh 120-run opening partnership in the final of the 14th Asia Cup, pairing with Liton Das. Mahidy went dugout scoring 32 but contributed ton for the team. Miraz had been preyed by part timer Kedar Jadhav in the last ball of the 21st over.
Liton, however, played his career best ODI innings. He hammered Indian bowlers from the one side but got nobody in the middle after Mehidy to make a bigger partnership. Liton got his maiden ODI century in the very high voltage Asia Cup Final.
