‘Drug peddler’ receives bullet in gunfight with police

An alleged drug peddler sustained bullet injuries during  a gunfight with police in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi on Sunday midnight.

The injured was identified as Rabiul Islam Titu, 45, of Puttali Kanthalbariya in the upazila.

Noor Alam, senior ASP of Rajshahi district Detective Branch (DB) of police, said a team from Godagari police station was patrolling Shiala area where drug peddler Rabiul Islam Tito and his cohorts were staying.

The gang fired on the law enforcers as the patrol team asked them to come with the police.

Police also fired bullets in self defense that left Titu injured. He received a bullet on his left knee.

The other gang members, however, managed to flee.

Titu is undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. A case has been filed against him under the Narcotics Control Act.

A foreign pistol, four magazines and 3,000 grams heroin were also recovered from the scene.
