COX'S BAZAR, Oct 21: The Rohingyas who came to Bangladesh to avoid atrocities by the Myanmar army, are getting more relief goods than requirement.
After selling the relief materials in the open markets, they are becoming self-reliant. Now, they are fleeing from the camps and spreading across the country through making fake national identity cards.
Recently, Satkhira District Police arrested seven Rohingya men, women and children whom they handed over to Ukhia Police Station, said its Officer-in-Charge Md Abul Khayer. The arrested Rohingyas are giving false information about their fleeing from the camp.
One of the arrested Hasina Begum, 25, said after coming to Bangladesh, they got no place to stay, so they fled to Satkhira. Her husband Md Selim said a local middleman took them to Satkhira who assured them of sending to Malaysia. After staying at a hotel in Satkhira, the middleman fled away taking all their money. For many days, they worked at people's houses. On information, police arrested them.
Meanwhile, allegations have been found that many computer shops set up near Rohingya camps in Ukhia are making fake national identity cards and other certificates. Using these documents, the Rohingyas are fleeing to different areas of the country.
Kalu Majhi of Taznimarkhola camp said many NGOs have given the fake identity cards to their chosen Rohingyas to work for them. These youths are roaming about freely with these fake cards.
Some people- Md Ali, Anu Mia and Shahar Ali of Machhkaria area said, they saw many Rohingyas leaving camps avoiding surveillance of law enforcers.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Ukhia Upazila Ekramul Siddiqi said they arrested some Rohingyas recently when they were fleeing from a camp.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Nikaruzzaman said they will raid illegal computer and electronics shops near the camps.
