In the upcoming parliamentary election, Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) will be used instead of ballot papers to reduce use of paper.

Trees are used for making paper and other accessories for the election. So use of EVM will reduce cutting down of trees and thus protect environment, said Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam while inaugurating EVM exhibition in Rajshahi on Saturday.

The EVM exhibition was held at regional election commission office in Rajshahi.

Rafiqul Islam said EVM will be used for limited seats due to some barriers and complexity.

As chief guest of the programme, election commissioner said this EVM exhibition will give the people pre-concepts about why to use and how to use the machine.

Rafiqul Islam said, “We called all the parties of Rajshahi to attend this EVM fair. We prefer voters than the parties. If the voters are satisfied with the EVM, parties also will be satisfied.’’

The exhibition started on Saturday morning while deputy commissioner Rajshahi SM Abdul Kader presided over the programme.

Divisional commissioner of Rajshahi (acting) Aminul Islam, DIG of Rajshahi range M Khurshid Hosen, RMP Commissioner M Hafiz Akter were also present there.
