Sheikh Hasina led Awami League is set to hold talks today (Thursday) with the Jatiya Oikyafront- an alliance of BNP, Jatiya Oikya Prokriya, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Rob) and Nagorik Oikya.
"The Prime Minister agreed to sit in dialogue with other parties as well. It is now a matter of time and schedule. The Prime Minister is sincere about the talks. The Prime Minister has a tight schedule. Despite this, the dialogue will be held," Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said.
On October 28, Dr Kamal Hossain, in favour of Jatiya Oikyafront, sent a letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina seeking a dialogue. In response, Sheikh Hasina sent a letter to Dr Kamal on Tuesday and invited Oikyafront leaders to join the talks at 7:00pm at Ganobhaban today (Thursday).
A 23-member AL alliance team led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will sit with Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikyafront leaders in the dialogue according to a party press release.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Awami League president is ready to hear and speak to other political parties to scale down the disagreement over the 11th parliamentary election which is scheduled to be held within 90 days as per the Constitution, the countdown began on Wednesday.
However, the Prime Minister's stand on holding the dialogue has created a severe hype and enthusiasm in political circles. Diplomats, local and foreign leaders congratulated the Prime Minister. Now the global media, foreign leaders, diplomats and the mass people are now eager to see the outcome of the talks.
"There are no specific issues to be discussed as the Prime Minister has not laid down any conditions, rather it could be said that the Awami League is ready to discuss everything in the meeting and it is hoped that the discussion will be successful as some senior leaders on the opposite side have enough knowledge about the Constitution, law, RPO and the politics," Quader said.
Members of the delegation are Obaidul Quader, Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Matia Chowdhury, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Mohammad Nasim, Kazi Zafar Ullah, Workers Party of Bangladesh leader Rashed Khan Menon, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) leader Hasanul Huq Inu, JSD-faction leader Mainuddin Khan Badol, Sammobadi
Dal leader Dilip Barua. Adv Anisul Huq, Dr Mohammad Abdur Razzak, Ramesh Chandra Sen, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Dr Dipu Moni, Abdur Rahman, Jahangir Kabir Nanonk,  Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Dr Hasan Mahmud, Abdul Matin Khasru and Adv S M Rezaul Karim.
"We have agreed to hold the dialogue to keep intact the democratic and constitutional trend. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina invited Dr Kamal Hossain at (her official residence) Ganabhaban at 7:00pm on November 1. We will hold this discussion with an open mind," Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, welcoming Prime Minister's decision to hold talks with political parties, President of Bikolpo Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Tuesday also sent a letter to the Awami League chief for engaging in dialogue over the same issue. Jatiya Party Chairman and former military ruler HM Ershad also wrote to the Prime Minister seeking to hold talks.
However, BNP leaders claimed that "Khaleda Zia's sentence" is a big issue here but the Awami League General Secretary Quader said, "Khaleda Zia's sentence is not an obstacle to the dialogue."
Meanwhile, Quader refused to speculate on the outcome of the talks. "It's an open case that we were not in favour of this type of dialogue. And we had a strong stance on this. We later agreed with our leader, a visionary leader, on the dialogue. I don't want to comment in advance. These are the matters related to the Constitution, the judiciary and the Election Commission."
