Bangladesh Chhatra League activists allegedly attacked police members when they were performing their duties at the Victory Day parade at Meherpur Stadium on Sunday, leaving three including two cops injured.
Sheikh Mustafizur Rahman, additional superintendent of Meherpur police, said police first detained BCL man Ibrahim Hossain from the stadium ground around 11am when he was beating one Suruj Ali, a resident in land office para area.
Angered by the detention, Ibrahim's fellow activists attacked the law enforcers to snatch Ibrahim away from the policemen that ensued a brief clash.
Sadar police OC Rabiul Islam, constable Md Rony, 26, and Suruk Ali were injured in the inciedent.
Rony and Suruj were admitted to Meherpur General Hospital.
Police, however, detained four BCL leaders in connection with the attack.
They are : district BCL president Abdus Samad Badhan and activists Ibrahim, Shishir Ali and Ashique Hossain.
The situation is now under control, the ASP said.
