Allegations of massive irregularities and corruption have been raised in dredging works in the Titas River in Akhaura upazila of Brahmanbaria district.
Brahmanbaria deputy commissioner Hayat-ud-Doula Khan warned that none involved in the irregularities would be spared. "We are investigating the matter," he said.
Denying the matter of irregularities, Water Development Board executive engineer Md Shahinuzzaman and River Dredging Project officer Md Mukhlesur Rahman said they are not involved in any kind of corruption.
According to the Water Development Board (WDB) sources, a total of Tk 119 crore had been allocated for dredging of 90 kilometers of the Titas, nine 9 kilometers of the River Pagla, a branch of the Titas, and over 3 kilometers of Kurulia canal.
The WDB is implementing the project.
Sources said dredging works are now continuing in Boro Bazar Ghat area under Akhaura municipality. But, allegations of irregularities and grafts have been raised against some PDB officials and the the construction firm in the work of Akhaura part.
