KCC officer jailed 5 yrs for embezzling Tk 10 lakh

A court in Khulna on Monday sentenced an official of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) to five years' in jail for misappropriating Tk 10 lakh in 2009.

Khulna Divisional Special Trial Tribunal judge S M Abdus Salam gave the order against Amirul Islam, officer in-charge of Estate Section of KCC.

The court also fined him Tk 9,25,453, in default, he will have to suffer one year more in jail.

According to the prosecution, S K Tasaddukuzzaman, the then Revenue Officer of KCC filed a case with Khulna Kotwali Police Station on March 17, 2009, bringing allegation of embezzling Tk around 10 lakh.

Public Prosecutor (PP) Selim Al Azad of the Tribunal said that anti-corruption commission (ACC) had been charged to investigate the case.
