3 Meherpur language veterans’ names to be put on list

Meherpur district administration is going to put names of three living language veterans in its record for the first time.

They are : Sultan Sheikh of Kalachandpur under Meherpur municipality, Golam Kawsar Chana of old post office para in the district town, and Sirajul Islam of Baut village in Gangni upazila.

The names will be put on the list as per the report submitted by a sub-committee formed in thi regard on February 6.

In order to observe Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day in the district, a preparatory meeting was held in the DC’s conference room on February 6 with Ataul Gani, Deputy Commissioner (DC) in the chair.

Local journalist GF Mamun Lucky brought the three names under the notice of the DC.

The living language veterans in Meherpur actively took part in language movement in 1952.

The DC then formed a four-member sub-committee with retried college teacher Dr. Gazi Rahman as its chief to investigate the matter and asked to submit its report within 10 days.

The committee submitted its report citing that the three langue movement veterans are still alive who actively took part in language movement in 1952.
