TANGAIL, Apr 1: In eight of 12 upazilas, Awami League (AL) candidates have been elected chairmen. In three upazilas, rebel candidates and in one upazila, BNP expelled rebel candidate have been elected chairmen on Sunday.
Three candidates have been elected chairmen unopposed in Gopalpur, Dhonbari and Modhupur upazilas.
Assistant returning officers of the upazilas confirmed the news.
In Sadar Upazila, Shahjahan Ansari, joint-secretary of AL of the district with 59, 967 votes has been elected chairman.
In Mirzapur Upazila, AL candidate Mir Enayet Montu with 68,856 votes has been elected chairman.
In Ghatail Upazila, AL candidate Shahidul Islam Lebu with 64,105 votes has been elected chairman.
In Bhuiyanpur Upazila, AL candidate Abdul Halim with 20,680 votes has been elected chairman.
In Sakhipur Upazila, AL candidate Julfikar Hayder Kamal with 50,091 votes has been elected chairman.
In Delduar Upazila, independent AL rebel candidate Mahmudul Hasan with 26,990 votes has been elected chairman unofficially.
In Dhanbari Upazila, AL candidate Harunur Rashid has been elected chairman.
In Madhapur Upazila, AL candidate Sarowar Alam Khan has been elected chairman unopposed.
In Gopalpur Upazila, AL candidate and current chairman Yunus Islam Talukdar has been elected chairman unopposed.
In Kalihati Upazila, AL rebel candidate Ansar Ali with 66,027 votes has been elected chairman.
In Basail Upazila, AL rebel candidate and former chairman of the upazila Kazi Olid Islam with 35,361 votes has been elected chairman.
In Nagarpur Upazila, BNP leader and current chairman Abdus Samad Dulal with 35,845 votes has been elected chairman.
