Classes and exams will resume at the Barishal University on Sunday after a closure for nine days following student protests demanding withdrawal of its vice-chancellor ended on Saturday.
Administrative and academic buildings of the university have been unlocked, and three residential halls also been opened.
These decisions were taken at a meeting between protesting students and representatives of Barishal, administration, the university teachers.
Earlier on March 27, the university authorities shut down the university for an indefinite period and asked students to vacate the residential halls, amid student protests.
After the meeting, Barishal-5 MP and Water Resources Minister Zahid Faruque Shamee, Registrar Dr Hasinur Rahman on behalf of the university, and Mohiuddin Sifat on behalf of protesting students briefed the media to this regard.
During this, Minister Zahid Faque said students' demands were rational. Vice Chancellor SM Imamul Haque will no longer come at the campus. The Prime Minister would be informed to send him to forcefully retirement, he added.
According to the students, the university administration arranged a cultural programme marking the Independence Day. Teachers and city's distinguished personalities attended the programme, but students were barred from entering the venue.
Protesting the authorities decision, the students started demonstration on that day to realise their five-point demand.
