Bumper Boro yield likely at Mohanpur

RAJSHAHI, Apr 13: The growers of Mohanpur Upazila in the district are likely to achieve bumper yield of Boro paddy this year.
The lands in the upazila are filled with green Boro paddies. The farmers used fertilisers and pesticides and took care of the paddies.  They are now waiting for harvesting the crops.
The farmers, who invested in the cultivation, remained worried. Now, they're waiting for the outcome of their hard work.
Sources at the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in the upazila said Boro paddy was cultivated on about 8,000 hectares of land this year.
This correspondent found that Boro paddy was cultivated in Mogra Beel (water body), Dhorsa Beel, Paschim Beel, and Jaoai Beel in the upazila.   
Sub-assistant agriculture officers are assisting famers in raising awareness. They said most of the fields are in good condition. They also said the cultivators did not face setback for electric supply in irrigation. They also claimed that since the weather was favourable, the cultivators did not face any problem.
Farmer Ayub Ali of Gocha Village in Ghashigram Union of the upazila said the fields are in good condition during the current season. They have taken care of the paddies.
He also said no disease or pest attacked the paddies so far. The DAE officials are giving them advice on taking care of the paddies. He is expecting a good yield of paddy.
Farmer Abdus Salam Mandal of Haridagachi Village in Keshorhat Municipal area said the production of Boro paddy was good. Since the lands for Boro cultivation decreased, he cultivated Boro paddy on five bighas of land. He expects good yield if the weather remains favourable.
