SIRAJGANJ, Apr 28: The ongoing hot weather is spreading various diseases in the district.
People of all ages, including children, are suffering from the diseases. Especially children are being affected with diarrhoea, bronchitis, and pneumonia. The number of child patients with various diseases is increasing in hospitals.
It is known from the emergency department of Sirajganj General Hospital that due to the intense heat, the number of diarrhoea patients in the hospital increased. In addition, the number of patients with cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure is also increasing in the hospital.
It has been found that in many medical centres including Sirajganj General Hospital, and Mother and Child Hospital near Mujib Road, newborn and five-year-old children are getting more affected.
There are 40 beds in the Health Department of Sirajganj 250-Bed General Hospital. But patients admitted are almost twice than the seats. Thus, due to lack of beds, many patients are being treated on the floor.
Simi, a nine-month-old girl of Syedul Islam of Ramgati Village in Sadar Upazila, was admitted to the paediatric medicine ward on Friday. Her mother Rojina Khatun said, Simi was affected with fever and breathing problem. After being treated locally, she was admitted to the hospital, she added.
Mohammad Hossain of Boikanthopur Village of the same upazila said his one and a half-month-old son Limon was admitted to the hospital on Thursday after his cold-fever started. He was also facing difficulty to take breath. However, from Saturday his son is feeling better, he added.
Omar Faruk, five-month-old child of Ashraful Islam of Dattabari Mahalla of the municipal town was admitted to the same ward.
Aminul Islam, junior consultant of the Child Department of the hospital said, patients were admitted in more than usual number.
Every day, 20 to 30 patients were admitted to the hospital, but now 50 to 60 patients are getting admitted per day. Most of them are under five years.
Due to lack of seat, they are being forced to take treatment staying on the floor.
