A 'listed criminal' was killed in an exchange of fire between two gangs over establishing supremacy in Gangi upazila of Meherpur early Saturday.
Deceased Monirul Islam, 30, was a resident of Kasba village.
He was an accused in nine cases including of murder, robbery, kidnap, arms and drugs, said Obaidur Rahman, officer in-charge of Gangni Police Station.
On secret information that a gunfight took place between two gangs at Kasba-Kachuikhali field, a team of police went to the scene around 2am.
Sensing presence of the team, the criminals managed to flee.
Police, later, rescued bullet-hit Monirul from the spot and taken him to Gangni Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, said the OC.
Police also recovered a pistol and a bullet from the scene.
