Dengue cases are increasing in the Meherpur district as a total of 127 people were infected with the disease from July 30 to August 22.
In Gangni upazila, the situation is very fearful as people are being infected with the mosquito-borne dengue almost every day, according to hospital authorities.
On July 30, Ambia Khatun, a housewife, was first diagnosed with the disease in this district.
According to the sources, 71 dengue patients were admitted to Gangni Upazila Health Complex while 48 were identified as dengue patients at Mehrpur General Hospital and eight at Mujibnagar Health Complex within 24 days.
Of them,11 patients are now undergoing treatment at Gangni Upazila Health Complex and Mehrpur General Hospital. The rests returned their respective home after recovery.
Dr B D Das, resident medical officer at Gangni Upazila Health Complex, said the number of dengue infected patients are increasing alarmingly.
He requested the administration to take an effective step to bring the situation under control.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Dilara Rahman said they are working in this regard. Integrated efforts are required to check the disease, he added.
Bokul Ahmmed, a union parishad member of Koruigachi village, said, they are taking awareness programmes among the villagers about dengue.
