Liquor, casino tools seized from business tycoon Aziz Md Bhai’s residences

The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) on Sunday raided two houses of film producer and businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai in the city's Gulshan area and found huge stock of foreign liquor and casino equipment there.
DNC Assistant Director Khurshid Ala said the DNC team seized liquor and beer of different brands, casino equipment and shisha bar conducting a drive at the house and rooftop of the building.
Khurshid Alam that the raid at House-11/A on Road-57 in Gulshan-2, which started on Sunday.
 "The raid is being carried out on intelligence report. We have found a minibar on the roof. A huge amount of foreign liquor, marijuana and 1,000 Yaba tablets have been seized," he said. The DNC official said they have also found gambling equipment, like playing cards and plastic chips in the house.
He said they first raided a flat located on the third-floor of a six-storied building and then the rooftop of another six-storey building owned by the noted businessman and seized huge stock of foreign liquor, shisha and casino equipment.
Kurshid said they also arrested two caretakers-- Md Nabin Mandal and Parvez, caretakers of the buildings. -- during the drive.  He, however, said Aziz Mohammad, a;so a leading figure of the Aga Khanese community in the country, was not there in any of the houses.
The DNC officials  raided two buildings on the same plot. The gambling equipment were found on the rooftop of one of the buildings and "huge" number of liquor in a room on the third floor of the other building, the officials said.
Nabin said he had never seen Aziz Mohammad in seven to eight years since he took the job.
Parvez said he was in charge of taking care of the third floor, but never entered the room where the liquor was found.
The DNC's drive came amid an ongoing government crackdown on illegal gambling, extortion, contract-grabbing, corruption and other wrongdoings.

Aziz Mohammad is chairman of Olympic Industries and Ambee Pharmaceuticals. His wife Naureen Aziz Mohammad Bhai is managing director of the pharmaceutical company.
Naureen and Aziz Mohammad's relatives live in the two buildings, according to officials.

The special tribunal on the stock markets last year ordered Aziz Mohammad's arrest in a case over the 1996 share market scam.
A director of Olympic Industries, Aziz is more known as a film producer. Accused in the case over actor Salman Shah's murder, he has been staying abroad for a long time.
He went abroad and had been staying there before the arrest warrant was issued.  Known also as a film producer, Aziz Mohammad Bhai's name came up in investigations into the deaths of actors Sohel Chowdhury and Salman Shah.
