Our beloved homeland is called the land of six seasons. Our country is the land of natural beauty. Season changes every two months in our country. Each season arrives with its special features. So, each season has certain continuity as a unique character or beauty. Late autumn is called the queen of beauty. The Bengali months of 'Kartik' and 'Agrahayan' compose the season of Late Autumn. It is between the end of the rains and the beginning of winter. Late autumn comes to our country floating in the breeze with a sheet of cold mist. At this time new conducts are created around nature. The dew drop on the leaves of trees at night with melodious sound tells us the change of nature. With the beginning of late autumn, the green grasses are covered with dews during dawn. Pearl like dew drops on grasses, leaves, and petals make nature look stunning as the first ray of the sun falls on them. The cool breeze, slightly chilled air and the morning dew, makes the season dreamy. Late autumn comes with the massage of winter.
Late autumn is a wonderful season indeed. Nature brings different dimensions. It is neither hot nor cold but very comfortable. Late autumn beautifies the nature and its surroundings. On the sweet sunny days, colourful birds and butterflies can be seen on the trees. During the season, the fields begin to take a golden hue for its ripened crops. A disciple of rice slowly takes the gold colour. When the golden colour becomes velvety all around, the scene in rural Bengal becomes something else. A disciple of rice swings in the fields! The frosty morning, raw gold sunshine, the dusk-filled wet evenings, and the bright night sinking in the cloud free sky make late autumn more mysterious to everyone's eyes. The immense beauty of Bengal enthralled insights views our nature lover. Late autumns' soft sunshine touches everyone. The poet looks at late autumn differently. Countless stars can be seen in the night sky. A dotted cloud could not be seen anywhere on the broad horizon. The stars twinkle the whole night. At the same time, moonlight from the body of the moon is falling in the world. The fiery winds and gentle light flashed on night.
Different kinds of beautiful flowers like emile, sheuli, kamini, gandharaj, mallika, chhatim, devkanchan, jasmine, water lily, rose, magnolia, hibiscus, and bougainvillea bloom during this season. Floral fragrance brings a festive mood to Bengalis. Flowers bring peace and tranquillity to the mind. Some of the special fruits like karamcha, chalta, star fruit, amalaki, and pomegranate and betel leaf most grow in plenty during late autumn. Coconut is the main fruit of the season. Gourd and pumpkins grow in plenty in the fields and yards.
Nabanno or the harvesting festival is one of the biggest celebrations of the season. It is usually celebrated with food and dance and music in our country. When the farmers get their harvest at home, their faces beam with light and laughter. It brings the touch of festivity into the lives of people. The festival is organized on the occasion of the first cooking of rice prepared from the new Aman rice. Many traditional food items like payesh, naru are made to sweeten the celebrations. From house to house, in the village and town, the aroma of flapjack made by new rice floats in the air. In some areas of Bangladesh, Different kinds of pitha are distributed to relatives and neighbours. The festival is celebrated with a fare which is called Nabanna Mela. The villagers and locals from both the major religious groups join the festival. Every year Nobanno is also celebrated in the city. There are many people in the city, who have grown up in the village, but they do not have to visit there. The festival reminds them of the past of the village. Otherwise, Jagatdatri Puja, Kali Puja, Bhai Fonta, Ras Mela are some of the other festivals people celebrate.
