Like the people of other countries, people in Bangladesh also love and adore football. Once, football stadiums in the country used to witness arguments and huge clashes among the club fans after or during matches. But, the scenario changes day by day with the fall of quality of local footballers.
The port-city was once famous for arranging different football events. But, the city dwellers had not gotten the flavour of any sort of international or big football events for about twenty years until Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup which was held in there in October last year.
The club cup event was the first ever international club cup event in Chittagong as well as in Bangladesh.
As it succeeded to gain attention of football fans, many former and renowned footballers delineated it a new chapter of local football.
The BPL rights holders knew how the people of Chittagong love football. The presence of a large number of sports lovers in the galleries during the club cup matches, especially in the final match was a remarkable matter.
So, they chose Chittagong as the venue for the opening ceremony.
Beside Chittagong, the matches of BPL will be held at three more venues including Sylhet District Stadium, Mymensingh District Stadium and Bangabandhu National stadium in Dhaka which is the primer football venue in the country.
