Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reaffirmed her resolve to wipe out terrorism and establish peace in Bangladesh.

“We will not tolerate any form of terrorist or militant activities and will ensure people’s security,” she said on Saturday at an event hosted by the ministry of public administration.

Hasina said the government’s handling of the July 1 Gulshan cafe attack proved Bangladesh’s ability to tackle terrorism.

“I believe Bangladesh is the only country in the world (to) neutralise terrorists within 10 hours and save the lives of a lot of hostages.”

The prime minister said that the government ‘acts promptly’ in such cases.

“We will root out militancy and terrorism, whatever their form.”

Condemning militancy in the name of religion, Hasina said Islam did not promise heavenly bliss for killing people.

“Please ensure that people get the real message of religion,” the prime minister told public servants at the programme.
