Professor SM Mahfuzur Rahman made new chairman of Janata Bank

Government has appointed Dhaka University's former Professor Dr SM Mahfuzur Rahman as the chairman of the state-run Janata Bank Limited replacing incumbent board chair Dr Jamal Uddin Ahmed.

He now works as the Vice-Chancellor of the BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology.

SM Mahfuzur Rahman, former professor of the Department of International Business of the DU, will perform his duties for three years from the date of joining, said a Finance Ministry circular signed by Deputy Secretary Jehad Uddin on Tuesday.

SM Mahfuzur Rahman worked as the chairman at the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh from 2011 to 2014.

It is learnt that Professor Jamal Uddin Ahmed, general secretary of the Bangladesh Economic Association, made chairman of Janata Bank Limited on August 28, 2019. He has been removed after 11 months.
