Human chain for safe road

Nirapod Sarak Chai (NSC), an organization working for safe road, on Saturday formed a human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club urging authorities concerned to take effective steps for preventing street accidents.

"Despite the number of road mishap has come down significantly on the roads and highways across the country, the nation witnessed increased causalities during recent Eid festivals," said actor Ilias Kanchan, chairman of NSC (We Demand Safe Road).

About the causalities followed by the road crashes, he quoted the report of a monitoring team as saying, "As many as 140 street accidents took place during the Eid festivals killing at least 205 people and injuring about 205 others."

The film actor expressed grave concern over the 'reluctance' of the country's political leaders to the street accidents terming it's a disaster.

He urged all people to build mass awareness and create national unity to ensure a safe road.

In support of their demand for safe road, they also showed their token protest lying on the road wearing coffin clothes.
