'Square Mother' Anita Chowdhury passes away

Anita Chowdhury, wife of Square Group founder Samson H Chowdhury, has passed away. She was 90.

She died while undergoing treatment at Square Hospital on Sunday (November 13, 2022).

Popularly known as "Square Mata (mother)," Anita is survived by her children Samuel S Chowdhury, the current chairman of Square Group, Ratna Patra, vice chairman of Square Pharma, Tapan Chowdhury, managing director of Square Pharma and Anjan Chowdhury, managing director of Square Toiletries.

Ajay Kumar Kundu, chief executive officer of Mediacom Limited - a subsidiary of Square Group, told media that Anita Chowdhury died due to old-age complications.

On January 5, 2012, Samson H Chowdhury, the founder of Square Group, passed away at Raffles Hospital in Singapore at the age of 86.
