Fake presiding officer arrested in Rangpur eve of election

A fake presiding officer was arrested by police in Rangpur city on Monday, a day before the election of Rangpur City Corporation.

The arrested was Laltu Miah, hailed from Jhenidah district.

Mahiganj Police Station officer-in-charge Mostafizar Rahman confirmed the matter on Monday evening.

According to the police, the accused disguising as presiding officer demanded bribe from Sultan Ahmed, who is a councilor candidate of Ward No- 33 in the city, giving false promise to make him win in the election.

On suspicion, the candidate informed police about the fake presiding officer.

Later, police arrested Laltu Miah and took him to the police station for questioning.
