9 individuals, 1 institution to get Independence Award 2023

The government has nominated nine distinguished people and one institution for "Swadhinata Padak 2023" (Independence Award 2023), the highest civilian award, for their outstanding contributions to different fields of the country.

The Cabinet Division issued a circular in this connection on Thursday.

According to the circular, Freedom Fighter Colonel (Retd) Shamsul Alam, late Lieutenant AG Mohammad Khurshid, Shaheed Khawza Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan and Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya Bir Bikram were nominated for their contributions to the Independence and Liberation War.

Late dramatist Dr Mohammad Moinuddin Ahmed (Selim Al Deen) will receive the award for his contributions Literature, and Pabitra Mohan Dey for  his contributions to Culture while ASM Rakibul Hasan to Sports.

Nadira Jahan (Surma Zahid) and Dr Firdausi Qadri will get the award for their contributions to Research and Training.

Besides, Directorate of Fire Service and Civil Defence has been named for the Independance Award in Social Work/Service category.
