Two killed, 50 hurt in road accidents in Jhalakathi, Gopalganj

Two people were killed and 15 others injured when a BRTC bus crashed into an electric pole after losing control at Kanudaskathi on Barishal-Patharghata Road in Rajapur of Jhalakathi district on Friday, the police said..

The deceased were identified as bus passenger Md Parvez, 35, and supervisor Md Mehedi, 45. Further details about them could not immediately be known.
Rajapur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Pulak Chandra Roy said the accident occurred around 9:45am at Kanudaskathi after Patharghata-bound bus hit a roadside tree amid an altercation between the driver and the supervisor.

The supervisor and a passenger died at the spot and 15 others, who boarded the bus, were injured, he said. The condition of bus driver among them is critical.

The injured were taken to Bhandaria Upazila Health Complex and Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital.

"On information, local police and Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. Legal action will be taken in connection with the accident," the OC said.

Our Gopalganj correspondent adds: At least 20 passengers were injured after the head-on collision between two buses on Gopalganj-Poisharhat road in Bhojergati area of Gopalganj sadar upazila early Friday.

The injured are- Diganta bus driver Badal Mia, 50, supervisor Dilip Das,40, driver of the Mehrab Poribahan Chan Mia, 32, passengers –Sunil Roy, 70, Shilpi Mondal, 45, Tara Moni Talukder, 50, Shova Ojha, 41, Dulal Madhu, 32 Shilpi Rani Biswas, 35. The identities of other injured could not be known right now.

Gopalganj Fire Service Senior Station Officer Sheikh Md Ariful Haq said a Benapole-bound bus of ‘Mehrab Poribahan’ from Poisharhat collided head-on with a Kotalipara-bound bus of ‘Diganta Poribahan’ due to the fog in Bhojergati area of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila early Friday, leaving at least 20 passengers of the buses injured.

The front portion of both buses damaged severely. Fire service men rescued the injured and took them to Gopalganj 25-bed General Hospital.

Traffic movement on both sides of the road halted for one hour after the accident.
