‘Women in leadership’ summit held

Non-governmental development organization Wave Foundation has been implementing various activities at local and national levels for the past three decades with the vision of building a 'sustainable and prosperous society'.

In this context, a pilot project titled 'Women in Leadership' is being executed with the support of the British Council.

Under this project, 20 young women participated in an eight-week online leadership course at Clore Social Leadership in England and got an opportunity to network with a total of 100 participants from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in South Asia.
This year the course focuses on education, technology, enterprise and business, arts and culture and development sectors.

Above all, this initiative will have a big role in achieving 'gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls' under Sustainable Development Goals.

In addition to this course, the participants had the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills by participating in 6 speed mentoring sessions on various topics related to women leadership.

In 6 webinars on the same subject, they had the opportunity to exchange views with relevant experts presenting their opinions and views.

This year, participants in a week-long social media campaign around International Women's Day have been able to spread their views across the world with their speeches and video presentations.

As part of the project , a day-long 'Women in Leadership Summit' titled 'Women in Success, Struggle, Leadership' was held at CIRDAP International Conference Center in the capital on March 28.

Farida Parveen, Director General of the Department of Women's Affairs who was present as chief guest at the opening ceremony, said that it is possible to develop gender equality in the society by coordinating the work of all parties with the government.

The current government is running multifaceted programs for women's empowerment and leadership development.

Directorate of Women Affairs is working in 493 upazilas of the country. Jayita Foundation; More than 80 one-stop crisis centers to prevent violence against women; Women's Support Center in 6 divisions of the country; Violence against Women Act; red green dot com; Hotline 109; Joy Mobile App; Teen Club; e-services; E-commerce initiatives are being implemented.

 The inaugural session was followed by three panel discussions on 'Women in Innovation and Technology;' 'Skill Development and Employment Opportunities for Women' and 'Women in Success, Struggle, Leadership'.

In the panel discussion, Dhaka University robotics department professor Dr. Lafifa Jamal, distinguished trainer Abdullah Zafar, artisan entrepreneur Tania Wahab, professor of Anthropology Department of Dhaka University.

Zobayeda Nasreen, human rights and gender expert Sanaiya Fahim Ansari, representatives of the project from different places and present participants expressed their views.
