Xi Jinping congratulates Bangladesh's new president

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday sent a congratulatory letter to Md Shahabuddin on his assuming office as president of Bangladesh.

Xi Jinping in the letter noted that China and Bangladesh are traditionally friendly neighbours. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have always respected each other, treated each other as equals, and supported each other on issues concerning each other's core interests, which has set an example of friendly coexistence and win-win cooperation between the countries, according to Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh.

Xi Jinping said he attaches great importance to the development of China-Bangladesh relations, and stands ready to work with President Shahabuddin, to carry forward the traditional friendship between the two countries, jointly build "Belt and Road Initiative" with high quality and keep promoting the China-Bangladesh Strategic Partnership forward to better benefit the two peoples.

He expressed his wishes for prosperity to the country and happiness to the people of Bangladesh in the letter.
