BB orders freezing bank accounts of Hasnat Karim

The Bangladesh Bank has ordered for freezing the bank accounts of Hasnat Karim, a former teacher of NSU (North South University).
Hasnat Karim, the only arrested person in a case filed for having a link with the militant attack at a Gulshan cafe in Dhaka on July 1.
The Central Bank's directive for all banks inthe country came on Wednesday in the backdrop of the recent militant attacks.
Bangladesh Bank's Financial Intelligence Unit officials told The Daily Observer that the decision was taken following a report that Hasnat Karim is one of the main financers of the militant attack at a Gulshan cafe in Dhaka on July 1.
Hasnat and Tahmid(a student of University of Toronto) have been under an eight-day remand since August 4 after they were both shown arrested under section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
Hasnat Karim was arrested from in front of Aarong shop in Gulshan around 7:25pm while Tahmid was held from Bashundhara Residential Area around 8:45pm on August 3 on suspicion of having links with Gulshan attackers.
On July 1, however, 28 people lost lives including 6 gunmen, 20 hostages and 2 police officers in Gulshan Hostage Crisis.  Twenty hostages, all foreigners, had been slaughtered by gunmen long before the rescue operation was launched at the captured restaurant.
