Rajshahi ethnic groups want recognition as tribal

'Rajshahi Adivasi Parishad' formed a human chain at Saheb Bazar zero point in the city to demand nine points on Friday morning.

In the human chain, the organization's leaders and activists displayed placards with various demands.
The speakers at the human chain made a total of nine demands to the government, including constitutional recognition of small ethnic groups as 'tribals'.

The demands include constitutional recognition to establish the rights of tribals, formation of an independent land commission for the tribals of the plains, quota in government jobs, stop oppression on tribals including implementation of quota in higher education, rehabilitation of displaced tribals.

The leaders also said that they will send an open letter to Prime Minister regarding the demands.

At that time, Jatiya Adivasi Parishad president Advocate Babul Rabidas presided over the programme where general secretary Ganesh Mardi, organizing secretary Bimal Rajoa and central and local leaders of Adivasi Parishad spoke.
