Final round of Independence Cup rolls Friday

The final round of the Independence Cup 2023 is set to kick off on Friday. Bangladesh Police Football Club and Brothers Union Ltd are to play the first match of the event on the opening day at the Bir Shrestha Flight Lt Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.

The grouping and fixture draw of the tournament were held at the BFF House in Dhaka on Monday. The matches are to be played at three different venues. Apart from the venue in Munshiganj, the other venues are the Bashundhara kings Arena and Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj. As the prime football venue of the country, Bangabandhu national Stadium is still under construction, the BFF had to pick other venues.

The 13 teams were pit in four groups. The Group-A had Bangladesh Police FC, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Brothers Union while Group-B had Dhaka Abahani, Sheikh Russel KC, Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society, and Bangladesh Air Force Football Team, Group-C got Mohammedan Sporting Club, Fortis Football Club, and Bangladesh Army Football team, and Group-D got Bashundhara Kings, Chittagong Abahani, and Bangladesh Navy Football team.

On the opening day, there are three matches including one between Bangladesh Police and Brothers Union. In the other matches, Dhaka Abahani will face Bangladesh Air Force Football team at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra will meet Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society at the Bashundhara kings Arena.
