The Rajshahi University (RU) authorities on Sunday suspended the deputy chief medical officer of university’s medical center Razu Ahmed temporarily for reportedly harassing a girl of a teacher.
RU public relation office administrator Prof Pradip Kumar Panday through a notice informed that vice-chancellor Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar had suspended physician Razu temporarily and decided to form a three-member probe committee to investigate the matter. The decision of suspension will be effective from Sunday.
Earlier, around four hundred teachers and students, under the banner of RU Teachers’ Association, formed a human chain at the university’s paris road at about 10am, demanding immediate removal and exemplary punishment of Razu Ahmed.
Other university organizations, including Mohila Club, Bangladesh Mohila Parishad, showed their solidarity with the demand.
The agitating students also locked the entrance of administration building but later it was opened with the help of Proctor, public relation office administrator Prof Pradip Kumar Panday.
Earlier, the mother of a Class VIII female student, also a professor of the university, lodged a written complaint with the university authorities and filed a case with the Boalia police station against Razu Ahmmed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
In the case statement, the professor stated that on Monday night (October 30), she took her 13-year-old daughter, who was suffering from a dental problem, to Razu’s private chamber at Amana Clinic in Talaimari area in Rajshahi where the physician sexually harassed her.
