The Election Commission (EC) will brief the heads of foreign embassies and multilateral agencies stationed in Bangladesh ahead of the upcoming national elections slated for January 7.

The commission is inviting the foreign diplomats for a meeting at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel at 3:00 pm on January 4, three days ahead of the election. The resident representative of UNDP Bangladesh and heads of international agencies are also being invited for the meeting.

The EC has already sent a letter to the foreign secretary asking to take necessary steps to ensure the presence of the foreign diplomats.

An EC official aid chief election commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal, at the meeting, will raise its preparation and steps to hold the 12th national elections in a free and fair manner.

A total of 27 parties are participating in the general election out of 44 registered political parties, while BNP and some other parties are boycotting the polls.

Some 1895 candidates across the country’s 300 constituencies are running in the national election.
